AI for dog grooming business owners is a front desk helper, not a groomer. Today it can answer the phone while your hands are on a wet dog, book appointments into your calendar, answer service and price questions, and write pickup texts and social captions. It cannot judge a matted coat or a nervous dog. Start with missed calls.

AI tools for dog groomers compared

Most pages ranking for this topic are written by a vendor about its own product. Here are five tools from different companies, grouped by the job they do. Prices come from each vendor’s own page, checked October 2026.

Tool Best for How it charges (as of Oct 2026) Free plan or trial The catch
Abby AI Receptionist Answering calls and booking straight into MoeGo Monthly plans by minutes; Starter $164/mo for 50 Abby Minutes Free trial (length not listed) Expensive for a solo groomer; AI minutes count as half a minute
MoeGo AI Receptionist Shops already on MoeGo Not listed; MoeGo plans start at $49/mo Waitlist only Not generally available yet
Jotform Dog Grooming AI Agent A free AI agent that takes booking requests and pet details Free plan; paid plans from $39/mo Free plan A dedicated AI phone number is a paid add-on
SchedulingKit AI chatbot A cheap website chat that books from your real availability Add-on from $12/mo on Standard and up 14-day trial; free booking plan Website chat only; does not keep behavior or medical notes
Claude Writing pickup texts, policies, captions and review replies Free plan; Pro $20/mo Free plan Does not see your schedule, clients or phone

Answering the phone while you groom

This is the biggest win for most groomers. You cannot pick up mid-clip or mid-bath, and a pet owner who hits voicemail often just calls the next shop.

1. Abby AI Receptionist

An answering service that offers an AI receptionist alongside live US-based receptionists, with a direct MoeGo connection.

Best for: a busy salon on MoeGo that misses a lot of calls and wants a person available when the AI is not enough.

Price: as of October 2026, Starter is $164/mo for 50 Abby Minutes, Essential is $329/mo for 100 and Professional is $599/mo for 200. Abby says AI answering uses half an Abby Minute, and usage over your plan is billed at your plan’s rate.

Pros:

  • Books the appointment on the right groomer’s column while the owner is still on the phone.
  • If the requested time is taken, offers the nearest open times from your live MoeGo availability instead of double-booking.
  • Bookings land in MoeGo marked unconfirmed, so you still approve each one.

Cons:

  • The cheapest plan costs more than many groomers pay for their whole booking system.
  • The MoeGo integration page is the one we checked. If you use other software, ask what it can book into.

Check before you buy: during the trial, call as a new client with a large, matted doodle and see whether it books a slot that is long enough or takes a message for you.

2. MoeGo AI Receptionist

MoeGo is grooming and pet care software. It has a page for an AI receptionist that runs inside MoeGo.

Best for: groomers already on MoeGo who would rather not add a second company.

Price: MoeGo does not list a price for the AI receptionist. As of October 2026 its plans are Basic $49/mo for up to one team member, Growth $99/mo and Ultimate $159/mo.

Pros:

  • MoeGo says it handles every inbound call 24/7 and books the appointment with add-ons.
  • It is built into MoeGo, so there is no separate calendar to connect.
  • MoeGo’s calling feature already lists AI-powered call summaries.

Cons:

  • The page asks you to join a waitlist, so you may not be able to turn it on yet.
  • No price or plan requirement is published.

Check before you buy: ask MoeGo in writing which plan includes it, what it costs and when you get access. Do not switch software for a feature you cannot use yet.

Booking requests and pet details without the back and forth

3. Jotform Dog Grooming AI Agent

A ready-made AI agent template from Jotform that helps pet owners request grooming appointments and gathers details about the dog.

Best for: a solo or mobile groomer who wants a free way to collect bookings and pet details around the clock.

Price: as of October 2026, the free Starter plan includes 5 AI agents, 100 conversations a month and 3,000 voice minutes. Paid plans are Bronze $39/mo, Silver $49/mo and Gold $129/mo. A dedicated AI phone number is a separate recurring add-on.

Pros:

  • Free to start, with a grooming template already written.
  • You train it with your own web pages, PDFs and question-and-answer pairs, like your price list and vaccine policy.
  • Works across chat, voice, phone, SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.

Cons:

  • It collects requests through a form. It does not book into grooming software like MoeGo or Gingr on its own.
  • 100 conversations a month on the free plan can run out in a busy season.

Check before you buy: ask it the five questions you hear most, like “Do you take walk-in nail trims?” and see whether every answer matches your policy.

4. SchedulingKit AI chatbot

Online booking software with an AI chatbot add-on that sits on your website.

Best for: a groomer who gets lots of website visitors asking the same questions before they book.

Price: as of October 2026, SchedulingKit has a free plan with 50 bookings a month. Standard is $12 per seat per month ($10 billed annually). The AI chatbot is an add-on from $12/mo on Standard and up.

Pros:

  • Answers questions about your services, staff and hours, checks real availability and books the appointment.
  • Clients get a confirmation email with a link to reschedule or cancel.
  • 14-day trial with no credit card required.

Cons:

  • Website chat only. Phone and text need a separate AI receptionist add-on, and WhatsApp and social DMs are not supported.
  • SchedulingKit says the chatbot does not record behavior or medical notes, so you collect those yourself.

Check before you buy: it only makes sense if you would move your bookings to SchedulingKit. Groomers on MoeGo, Gingr or DaySmart Pet should skip it.

Writing the texts nobody has time for

5. Claude

A general AI assistant from Anthropic that writes and rewrites anything you give it.

Best for: the owner who writes pickup texts, no-show policies, price explanations and Instagram captions at night.

Price: as of October 2026, Claude has a free plan. Pro is $20/mo, or $17/mo billed annually.

Pros:

  • The free plan covers most of the writing a small shop needs.
  • Turns your quick notes about a dog into a friendly pickup text in your own voice.
  • Drafts calm replies to bad reviews that you can edit before posting.

Cons:

  • It does not see your schedule, client records or phone unless you paste things in.
  • It will make up prices or health details if you let it.

Check before you buy: give it one day’s real notes and check it did not add anything that was not there.

Write a short, friendly pickup text to a dog owner. Plain English, two or three sentences, no emojis. Use only these facts: [Bella, full groom, teddy bear face, nails done, a little nervous at the dryer but settled, ready at 3pm, $X]. Do not mention any health issue that is not listed.

What about the booking software you already use?

Check your own software before you buy anything new. As of October 2026, Gingr’s pricing page (Spa plan for groomers, $109/mo or $100/mo billed annually) and DaySmart Pet’s pricing page (from $29/mo) list no AI features. MoeGo’s AI receptionist is waitlist only. So for most groomers, AI call answering today means an outside service that connects to your software, and AI writing means a general assistant like Claude.

How to set up AI for a dog grooming business

Go in this order. Each step is small, and you can stop whenever the next one is not worth the money.

  1. Count your missed calls. Check two weeks of your phone log. Note how many calls rang out while you were grooming and how many came after close.
  2. Write your answer sheet. One page: services, starting prices by size and coat, how long each takes, vaccine rules, cancellation and no-show policy, and what you do not do. Every AI tool on this list works better with it.
  3. Decide what the AI may say about price. A safe start: “starting at” prices only, and a callback for matting, aggressive dogs, first visits for large breeds and anything you need to see.
  4. Add call answering if step 1 justifies it. On MoeGo, compare Abby with MoeGo’s own receptionist once you get access. On a budget, try Jotform’s free agent first. Our guide to free AI receptionist options lists more.
  5. Save two prompts in Claude: the pickup text above and a review reply. Reuse them every day.
  6. Test before you go live. Call or chat as a customer five times with your hardest questions. See how to set up an AI receptionist for a full test script.

What AI will not do for a groomer

  • Groom the dog. There is no AI that clips, bathes or handles a dog for a small shop. It helps with the desk work around the table.
  • Price a coat it has not seen. Matting, size and temperament change the price and the time. Do not let a bot promise a number for those.
  • Keep behavior and health notes for you. A dog that bites, a skin issue or a senior dog with a heart condition belongs in your own client record, written by you.
  • Handle the hard conversations. A nick, an unhappy owner or a dog you found a lump on needs a call from you, not a text from a bot.
  • Make legal calls for you. Rules on recording calls and sending automated texts vary by state. Check with your attorney before you turn on call recording or marketing texts.

How we put this together: we checked each tool’s official pricing and feature pages on October 22, 2026. No vendor paid to be included. Prices change, so confirm on the vendor’s page before you sign up.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an AI receptionist for dog grooming?

Yes. Abby offers an AI receptionist that books into MoeGo, Jotform has a free dog grooming AI agent template, and MoeGo has an AI receptionist on a waitlist. General AI receptionists also work if you give them your services and prices. Test any of them as a customer before you send real calls to it.

Does MoeGo have an AI receptionist?

MoeGo has a page for an AI receptionist that it says answers every inbound call 24/7 and books appointments inside MoeGo. As of October 2026 the page asks you to join a waitlist and lists no price. Ask MoeGo which plan includes it before you count on it.

Is AI worth it for a small dog grooming business?

Free AI writing tools are worth it for almost every groomer. Paid call answering is worth it only if you miss calls. Compare the monthly cost with what one or two extra grooms a week bring in. If you rarely miss calls, skip paid tools for now.

Can AI groom a dog?

No. The AI a grooming shop can buy today handles phones, booking and writing. Grooming still needs a trained person who can read a dog and handle it safely.
